We're back in the Supers Universe with today's story. "Your Timing Needs Work" takes place about an hour or so after the events of "Not in the Job Description" and "Symbolic Name Fail."
While it is not necessary to have read these particular flash pieces or the series as a whole to understand today's story, having done so will probably make it more enjoyable. Emma and Cameron are two of the main players in the universe as a whole, so long time readers have seen the dynamic between these two in different situations and know why Cameron is beaten to a pulp.

We're back in the Supers Universe today with a story set about fifteen minutes after the events of "Off Night."
It does follow the events of "Off Night" and vague references to other stories or characters are made, but the story can be understood on its own. Today's flash fiction is set in the Supers universe during the events of "Not in the Job Description." If you are new to these stories, I would suggest reading "Not in the Job Description" first, but it is not strictly necessary to understand today's installment.
Story lines continue to intertwine within the Supers universe with today's story set the day after "Not in the Job Description." While you will see how our different stories are beginning to merge if you've read the other stories, you don't need to be familiar with the series to understand and enjoy the story.
However, if you'd prefer to see the entire series, you can find it all here. Today's post title is a bit of a misnomer. "Not in the Job Description" clocks in at 3106 words, which is well over the upper limit for flash fiction. But I thought it appropriate to give you something a bit meatier today since it's been so long since I have posted any kind of fiction here.
Another big difference is the type of prompt that led to the story and where I received it. Normally, I work from random first line prompts gotten from readers, generators, or Pinterest. However, "Not in the Job Description" was originally written as an audition for a staff writer position I applied to last year. Obviously, I didn't end up with the job, although this audition did get me an interview with the owner and main editor. They were looking for someone who could crank out a finished novel in a month and who is comfortable writing elements of romance. I can't speak as to whether or not I could crank out a novel in a month given a full eight hours a day to write. Writing hasn't been much of an income source for me, so I've always spent the majority of my time working as a maid or administrator to make the bills, merely writing in what time I can carve out around the necessities. But, anyone who has read my work before can tell I don't really do romantic elements, at least not of the type this particular company wanted, so the job wasn't a good fit. Still, I got this short story out of it featuring a pair of my favorite morally gray characters, Emma and Cam from the Supers Universe. So, I thought I would share this short story with you today since I still managed to make it work within the larger story as a whole. It's set about a month after the events of "Ride or Die." While reading the other stories in the Supers Universe will clue you in on some references and connections within the short, you don't need to have read any of the other stories for this one to make sense. Hello! I'm finally back with another installment for the Supers Universe. This one takes up with Stanley and Ms. Truseau a couple hours after the events of "A Protige' is Found." However, you don't have to have necessarily read it or any of the other Supers Universe stories to understand and enjoy today's flash fiction.
You can also go listen to the audio version, along with a playlist of all the Supers Universe audios in chronological order. Today's flash fiction takes us back to the Super's Universe right about a month after "A Protige' is Found." This time we're not with Stan West though, we're looking in on his cousin Laura at the start of a new school year.
The other stories in the series might fill you in on some background information, but having read them isn't necessary to understand or enjoy the story. I've found myself lacking time of late, and unfortunately, audios and much of the other content once on Eng Family Vlogs is taking the hit. I'm not entirely sure if I will continue to make audio versions of these stories each week or not at the moment, but as it stands for now, this one doesn't have one. Today's story takes us back to the Super's Universe an hour or two after "Broadening Horizons." Having read "Meeting Ms. Truseau" and "Broadening Horizons" can help fill in backstory, but it isn't necessary to understand todays flash fic.
You can also listen to the audio here. This week, we're back in the Supers Universe with Stanley West and his mentor, Ms. Truseau a few weeks after "Meeting Ms. Truseau." You don't have to have read that one or be familiar with the Supers Universe to understand the story though.
Or you can listed to the audio version. Today's story takes us back to the Supers Universe. It's set about a month after "Growing Pains." Prior knowledge of the universe isn't needed to enjoy the story though.
Or you can listen to the audio version. |
