I managed to keep my resolution to write every morning well for the first five or six days of the month. Then I hit a roadblock. The first few days were easy. I had Thursday and Friday off for the holiday, and then it was the weekend. I even managed to knock out a few hundred words Monday and Tuesday morning before work despite still feeling on the rough side. You see, I came down with the usual end or begin of year sinus troubles brought on by the dry winter air. Plus a debacle with trying to adopt an outdoor cat from the shelter combined with my severe allergy to cat and dog dander, but that's beside the point.
As I'm want to do with these things, I mostly relied on home remedies at first, which are effective enough when the trouble takes its usual course. This time, however, it was more stubborn, so I had gone to the doctor seeking help with the swelling around my eyes if nothing else. She took note of my medicinal allergies and prescribed some drops. To make a long story short, although the drops helped at first, I had a delayed reaction to them beginning late Tuesday afternoon. I lost all of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday as well as a good chunk of Saturday recovering the ability to see clearly and in too much of a cold medicine haze to spell much of anything anyway. Even now, I'm thankful for my spell check for catching most of the inversions and what not as I've been working to get back into the daily writing grove. The perfectionist in me wants to throw a tantrum about having missed a few days having "ruined" the resolution, but I've been getting better at hushing her up these last couple years. What's the good of focusing on a roadblock after you've already passed it?
